The Northquest story

The business was established in 2007 by Matthew Macdougall, Bill Murfitt and Phillip Barclay with one goal in mind, to remove the roadblocks businesses face when trying to secure the infrastructure and resources they need to grow and improve their businesses.

At that point Northquest was a team of three, and now the team comprises of nearly 50 with extensive experience working in some of the world’s most respected blue chip businesses, with offices and clients located across the world.

Our range of products and services has evolved along with, and ahead of, our clients’ needs. Our team are able to offer traditional Rental Agreements and Chattel Mortgages to finance office fit outs and software as well as innovative Managed Service and Off-take Agreements for sustainable products such as Co-Tri Generation.

Matthew brings a wealth of experience to his role as CEO of Northquest having worked in the finance industry, in particular equipment finance, for over 25 years. 

In 1988, he established Interlease Capital Holdings Pty Ltd – a successful leasing broking business operating in the Sydney market. Following this, Matthew raised $6 million in private capital in 1999 to launch National Rental Corporation Limited (NRC), which provided rental finance across Australia. 

Matthew was Executive Director of NRC for six years until it was acquired by Alleasing in 2006. He continued in a senior capacity at NRC and Alleasing as Head of Acquisitions NSW for a further two years. Matthew was appointed CEO of Global Rental & Leasing in 2008. 

He has held the position of Chairman of the Talent Development Foundation for seven years.

With over 25 years experience in the equipment finance sector, Bill brings substantial knowledge and expertise to his role as Director of Northquest. This includes more than a decade at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia in senior lending and managerial roles. 

Bill established Translease Pty Ltd with Philip Barclay in 2000, and helped expand the business into the rental and operating lease market with the establishment of Global Rental and Leasing Pty Ltd in 2006 – an entity that’s written in excess of $1 billion general finance business.

Philip has worked in the finance industry for over 25 years, with particular expertise in traditional and structured finance. 

Originally from Melbourne, he commenced his career in property and financial services, before moving to Sydney where he set-up his own brokerage group.

Philip established Translease Pty Ltd with Bill Murfitt in 2000, and was instrumental in the establishment of Global Rental and Leasing Pty Ltd in 2006.

With more than 20 years investment experience, Rad has successfully managed dynamic businesses for a range of multinational financial institutions in both Sydney and London.

He has comprehensive knowledge of international markets, managing risk across multiple asset classes, and identifying and structuring complex investment transactions.

What’s more, he has extensive experience dealing with industry bodies, investors and service providers across various sectors, including funds management, agribusiness, natural resource management, and commercial renewable energy project financing.

Rad holds a Bachelor of Business Degree from the University of Technology, Sydney.

Rob brings over 25 years experience in structuring, trading and risk management to his role as Director of Infrastructure and Energy at Northquest.

He’s held senior executive and leadership positions at major international banks in New York, Singapore, Tokyo and Sydney, where he’s been responsible for various asset classes, as well as global derivative and hybrid product portfolios.

Additionally, Rob has in-depth experience applying innovative structured finance solutions for commercial green energy projects for the agricultural, manufacturing and health care sectors.

With a proven track record in business building and sales leadership, Guy has the experience and expertise to help clients find solutions to their complex infrastructure funding requirements.

Over his career, he’s held senior executive roles at large multinational firms, including Associate Partner at Accenture, Vice President and General Manager at Unisys, as well as CEO of two start-up companies.

Guy has been instrumental in the growth of Northquest, from small beginnings to now employing over 50 staff and executing almost $1b in settlements to date. His primary focus is building and managing successful origination channels, including some of the largest industry Superfunds, engineering firms and chartered firms in Australia.

Guy has an MBA from London Business School and is a Qualified Chartered Accountant.

Dan Milton-Hine

Dan has over 25 years Sales, Marketing and Product Management experience in the IT and Financial Services sectors. Over that time, he’s worked for a number of multinational companies in Australia, Asia and the UK, including NCR, AT&T, Oracle, PeopleSoft and First Data.

Dan’s in-depth experience, strong relationship focus and extensive local and international networks enable him to lead and motivate his teams to achieve exceptional results.

Furthermore, his blend of sales, marketing and product management expertise has seen him successfully build, position and generate demand for client solutions.

Dan has an MBA from the University of Abertay, Scotland.

Mehmet Arican

Appointed in 2008 as the General Manager Operations and Risk at Northquest, Mehmet is responsible for the company’s back office operational functions and has over 20 years experience in the equipment finance industry. He is the Office Manager that oversees day to day Operational matters including legal, operational and risk compliance.

Prior to joining Northquest, Mehmet was the General Manager of Operations at Alleasing – the largest Operating Lease Company in ANZ. His responsibilities in this role included managing the Sales Support and Settlement Compliance teams, as well as helping develop operational systems and the integration of five separate businesses. 

Prior to this he was the Corporate Services Manager at NRC Group for six years. Furthermore some six years with ANZ Group in Credit management roles. Mehmet holds a Bachelor of Economics from Sydney University and has undertaken post tertiary studies in Small Business Management.

Wayne commenced his career in the finance industry with ANZ/ESANDA over 20 years ago. 
This foundation enabled Wayne to establish Northern City Finance in Brisbane, which he grew to 35 branches before selling the business to a public company. 

This experience as a successful business owner makes Wayne a valuable asset to the Northquest Senior Management team. He has a genuine passion for the finance industry, which is continually demonstrated through his impressive sales achievements. 

Wayne has also held several senior positions in the racing industry, including President of the QLD Racehorse Owners Association, Chairman of the Australian Racehorse Owners Council, Chairman of the Brisbane Turf Club, and Director of Racing QLD Ltd.

Natasha Wright

Natasha brings 18 years’ experience in marketing and communications to her role as Head of Marketing, with particular expertise in the Financial Services and Telecommunications sectors.

Prior to joining Northquest, she was the Head of Retail Marketing at BankWest, where she was responsible for developing and implementing marketing strategy for the BankWest retail channel.

Natasha’s previous roles included Channel Marketing Manager at Virgin Mobile Australia, Marketing & Communications Manager at HTC, and Marketing Manager at Sensis and 3 Mobile.

Natasha has an MBA from the Macquarie Graduate School of Management, Sydney.

Selma Harrison

Selma is a highly experienced finance professional with extensive accounting, financial analysis and project consulting capabilities. This includes providing detailed financial analysis and advice to senior executives in large corporate environments.

Before joining Northquest, she held a variety of executive positions, including Senior Corporate Accountant, Business Analyst and Consultant, for organisations such as AMP, David Jones Limited, Dexus, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and the Sydney Opera House.

Selma is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia and holds a Bachelor of Business (Accountancy) from the Queensland University of Technology.
